Bathroom Remodeling — Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a bathroom remodel cost in the Bay Area?+
A guest bathroom remodel typically runs $25,000–$45,000. Primary (master) bathroom remodels with walk-in showers, dual vanities, and tile work usually land $50,000–$120,000. Full layout changes that move plumbing add $10,000–$25,000.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?+
Plan on 4–6 weeks for a standard remodel, or 6–10 weeks if you're moving plumbing, expanding the footprint, or doing custom tile work. We typically schedule trades back-to-back so the bathroom is offline for as little time as possible.
Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom?+
Cosmetic swaps (vanity, toilet, fixtures in the same spot) often don't need permits. Moving plumbing, electrical, or changing the footprint does. Showers and tubs that are re-tiled with a new pan also require permits and inspection in most Bay Area cities.
Should I do a walk-in shower or keep the tub?+
For primary bathrooms, walk-in showers are increasingly preferred and add resale value when there's at least one tub elsewhere in the house. For families with kids or homes with only one bathroom, keep a tub — buyers expect it. We'll walk through the resale impact at the planning stage.
Can I use my other bathroom during the remodel?+
Yes — we plan the work so only the bathroom under remodel is offline. We protect floors and walls along the route from your entry to the work area to keep dust contained.
